The Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille LAM) is a UMR a "mixed research unit" (i.e. CNRS + university)
n°6110
- - resulting from the
merger of the Observatoire de Marseille and the Laboratoire
d'Astronomie
Spatiale.
LAM and the Observatoire de Haute
Provence (OHP) together
constitute the Observatoire astronomique de Marseille Provence, which
is an OSU
(Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers). LAM is the largest
public
research institute in the Marseille region; it combines fundamental
research
in astronomy with technological research in instrumentation.
LAM has 45 researchers; 100
engineering, technical
and administrative personnel; 12 thesis students and 20-25 work-study
interns
per year.
It is planned to regroup all research
facilities at
the Technopole de Château-Gombert, but at
present LAM is divided between
the site of the Observatoire de Marseille and that of LAS.
