Charged with defining the long-term scientific project of astrophysics in Provence, the OAMP oversees two research laboratories:
The Laboratory of Astrophysics of Marseille (LAM) associates fundamental research in astrophysics with technological research in instrumentation for ground and space-based telescopes.
The LAM is one of several French laboratories qualified as a “space researchlaboratory”. The LAM’s principal areas of research are: observational cosmology, galactic dynamics and evolution, extra-solar planets, the solar system, R & D, and optics instrumentation.
The Observatory of Haute Provence (OHP) is the OAMP’s site for national and international astrophysics and geophysics observation. There are many telescopes on the site an international observation station surveying stratospheric ozone and a dinate charge observatory. The numerous observation projects using OHP telescopes include extra-solar planets, solar system, stars, galaxy dynamics and evolution, interstellar medium, stratosphere evolution and atmospheric physio-chemistry.
