"The Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890)

Note by A. Bosma : I choose this picture as a "logo" for our group,
not only because I like the picture, and as an astronomer I like
the starry night sky myself, but also because I am a Dutchman living
in the south of France...
This version of the image was derived somewhere in 1996 from Le WebLouvre. 'The
Starry Night' is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which
has a Web
page on the painting (including an excellent JPEG
of it).
Further interest in the painting comes from a French article published
in Le Monde, which I mention here for curiosity, since it dates the
painting to the day using the constellations of the stars.
